Fetch address

To populate the Home address box, first enter your post code and then press 'Fetch address'. This will populate the Choose address drop-down list with all of the dwellings in that post code. Choose the one that is yours and job done!. Press 'Save' if it is correct.

If, like the lucky people of my village Alderholt, you live in the wrong county, you will discover that you suddenly now live in Dorset which, of course is quite wrong because you actually live in Hampshire. But getting this right is not the primary objective of the Royal Mail's post code database. This must be a constant source of confusion to our poor postman who, every morning cycles up the hill and past the 'Welcome to Dorset' sign clutching a bundle of envelopes destined for addresses in Hampshire.

Don't worry about it, the Royal Mail don't even look at your county any more and if other systems use the same database it is likely that your address will show up as 'invalid' if it does not comply with what is in the database. It is suggested that you go with whatever the lookup suggests for that reason.
