DicePassword

Password Managers (There are quite a few now) solve a big problem that we all have when we sign up to may different web sites, especially shopping sites, and that is we cannot remember the passwords we have chosen if they are all different - we choose either to write them all down or re-use the same password over and over.

The Inspiration

By chance, I came across this YouTube video presented by Dr Michael Pound of Nottingham University:

The future

DicePassword is very unlikely to become a product in its current guise (It does not yet support the mobile phone platforms, so is not very useful). The motivation for doing this work is to get interest from players in the tech industry who may be able to leverage the very secure, private and effective approach taken in implementing this Windows 10 example. The technology is easily ported to the IoS and Android platforms, I have done it before.

I would be pleased if visitors to this site took up an interest in the Password Manager marketplace and signed-up for any of the few very good products already established.

Technology marches on and the resources available to hackers (loners to state-sponsored) and we, as users of commercial websites need to go with that flow in the protection of our most valuable assets and stay ahead of the game as best we can.
